AbbVie HEOR Post-Graduate Fellowship in PCOR

December 15, 2023

12:00 AM - 11:00 PM

AbbVie is pleased to offer a two-year Post-Graduate Fellowship Program beginning in July 2024 within AbbVie’s Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) Patient-Centered Outcomes Research (PCOR) Center of Expertise (CoE). The PCOR team at AbbVie is responsible for driving the integration of the patient voice as a central component of value demonstration for our assets. PCOR’s researchers translate the patient experience into meaningful outcomes through generation of patient experience data (PED), robust measurement strategies and fit-for-purpose clinical outcome assessments (COAs) to support medical product development and regulatory and reimbursement decision-making.

Skilled health outcomes researchers are highly sought after in the pharmaceutical industry as the importance of real-world and patient-centered evidence generation to demonstrate the value of pharmaceutical products is increasingly recognized by regulators, payers, and health care providers. However, due to the specialized research needs and challenges unique to the pharmaceutical industry in effectively generating and communicating health outcomes research for these key stakeholders, significant prior industry experience is highly preferred, or required, by employers hiring for these roles. This can put new graduates who are interested in launching a health outcomes career in industry at a significant disadvantage.

To help move career interest to career opportunities, AbbVie’s Post-Graduate Fellowship Program will provide a unique experience for highly motivated individuals who have recently, or will soon, graduate from a master’s or doctoral program to accelerate their career trajectory, developing both technical & strategic application skills that will provide a critical foundation for a successful career in health outcomes research in the pharmaceutical industry. As one of the only programs of its kind in the United States, this program will provide fellows with in-depth, on-the-job training with an industry-leading team and strengthen technical expertise in the generation of PED through applied practice to address real-world business challenges in the pharmaceutical industry. While the fellowship program will be focused on the PCOR CoE, experiential opportunities in other HEOR CoEs and in various therapeutic areas (TAs) within AbbVie’s HEOR strategy team will be available based on internal needs and candidate interest.

The fellowship program will provide:

  • Additional training to enhance the candidate’s technical skills and hands-on experience for applied research skills.
  • Extensive professional development opportunities to build skills that are critical to a successful career in the life sciences industry, including how to 1) develop effective & impactful communications for different audiences, 2) collaborate & partner with cross-functional teams, and 3) drive evidence-based decision making.
  • Opportunities to build professional networks and collaborate with AbbVie’s world-class talent within health economics & outcomes research and across our cross-functional teams, including clinical development, medical affairs, regulatory affairs, market access, and marketing teams.
  • Opportunities to engage with external stakeholders through conferences and thought leadership engagements.
  • Mentorship from AbbVie leaders to accelerate the fellow’s career growth based on a customized personal development plan.
