Job Summary

Coordinates the dispensing of prescribed pharmaceuticals to designated patients and areas within the Freeport Health Network. Utilizes delegation, critical thinking, and problem solving skills to provide clinical pharmacotherapy support to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Participates in the communication network with appropriate members of the health care team.

Staff pharmacist will utilize critical thinking and problem solving skills. The pharmacist will also demonstrate delegation and team building skills in support of departmental operations.

Functions as a member of the health care team.

Demonstrates the ability to integrate pharmacotherapy principles into practice to optimize patient care.

Assumes professional responsibility and accountability within designated areas of practice.

Demonstrates clinical competency in providing age specific (neonatal-geriatric) pharmacological care to patients in designated areas of practice.

Assumes responsibility for the dispensing of prescribed pharmaceuticals to identified areas of practice and patients after first determining appropriateness of drug, dose, directions, etc.

Displays competency for the Pharmacist role as evidenced in the annual performance appraisal following the FHN PRIDE Standards.

Directly supervises pharmacy technicians

Requirements

Education:          Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from five-year College or university with a specialty in pharmacy; and one to two years related experience and/or training is preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Experience:     DISPLAYS COMPETENCIES IN:

  • Preparation of chemotherapeutic agents, Pharmacy module routines
  • (Meditech), Pharmacokinetics, I.V. admixture preparation/aseptic technique, Computer network
  • (Hardware), laminar airflow hood/biological safety hood, Clinical interventions, and Professional Education (C.E.)

Licensure/Certification/Registration:     RPH Licensure required.

While performing this job, the employee does not care for patients in the following age groups.

  • Neonate: <30 days
  • Infant: <1 year
  • Early Childhood: 1 year and <5 years
  • Late Childhood: 5 years and <13 years
  • Adolescent: 13 to <17 years
  • Young Adult: 17 to < 30 years
  • Middle Adult: 30 to < 60 years
  • Older Adult: > 60 years
  • No responsibility to treat or care for patients
  • Serves patient in areas other than patient care.
