The goal of the Pharmacy Internship at Loyola (PIL) program is to provide an educational workplace for pharmacy students of the Chicagoland area. PILs will have exposure to multiple areas of pharmacy to build both their operational and clinical skillsets. It is the expectation that PILs regularly staff in the central and IV room areas of the pharmacy. Interns will also be able to pursue training in various other areas if so desired (OR, narcotics, and pediatrics). Completing the PIL program uniquely sets up pharmacy students to be a well-rounded leader in the field. This is a longitudinal program in that after selection, students will be interns until the end of their P4 year. As interns progress, they will take on increasing amounts of responsibility via training new staff, completing medication reconciliations, researching drug information questions, and counseling high risk patients. PILs also have the entire pharmacy staff at their disposal for purposes of mentorship and research opportunities.
